Ways onto the Prom at the western end

There are no official ways to get to and from the Prom at the western end, a surprising omission.

The most direct way is to ignore the NO CYCLING signs and to use the diagonal path visible beside the red bin. This is the least steep way, and the path is not as busy with pedestrians as the one on the other side of the roundabout. The main problem is dealing with the traffic at the bottom, as car drivers will all be looking the other way as they meet the roundabout. It is just possible, if traffic isn’t too busy and you time it right, to ride up this path too.

The alternative is to continue a little further west and use the pavement on the far side of the roundabout, and this avoids having to ride on the roundabout at all. But that pavement is quite often busy with pedestrians, and, of course, riding on a pavement beside a road is a criminal offence.

It would be really nice if a well-designed route for cyclists could be provided here, it’s the weakest link in being able to use the Promenade as a cycle route.
